Per our Dismissal Procedures, a parent or any individual indicated in the child’s enrollment forms may pick up the child.
Our school closes at 5:30 p.m. every day. Your child must be picked up before that time. Please call the school if you will be more than 5 minutes late picking up your child.
Please note: We assess a $1 charge per minute as a result if your child is at the school beyond 5:35 pm.
We do not follow the Cedar Rapids School district procedures for closings and early dismissals. On days when the Cedar Rapids schools are either delayed or canceled due to bad weather, we may still be open.
In the event of a delay or school closure, we will post on KCRG and on our Facebook Group regarding the change in schedule due to weather.
If we must close early, the school will contact the parents of all remaining children at the school. We will ensure that enough staff remains at the school to ensure every child is picked up.
Precious Moments Montessori Preschool closes on the following days:
Please dress your child in washable, comfortable clothing designed for active play. Be sure to keep an extra set of clothing at the school in the event your child’s clothing gets wet or muddy. Include extra undergarments or pull-ups and wipes in the event of an accident with your child’s extra clothing. Mark all clothing items clearly with your child’s name in permanent, non-washable marker in order to avoid mix-ups.
We try to include outdoor activities daily, as weather permits. However, we may suspend or shorten outdoor play due to bad weather. For example, if the temperature index is colder than -20 degrees Fahrenheit or higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit, we will opt for indoor play.
Dress your child for the weather. In the winter, this includes snow pants, a hat, mittens, boots, and regular shoes. If your child cannot participate in physical activity, per doctor’s orders, notify the staff so that we can provide alternative activities
The school is not responsible for lost property. If you are missing an item, check the lost and found box near the entrance. Do not send your child with items from home, particularly money or toys, without talking with their teacher.
We do not allow the use of tobacco products, including vape pens, anywhere on school grounds. This extends to all outdoor areas near the school or playground.
Our first responsibility is to keep each child safe while they are in our school. Thus, if we suspect that the person who arrives to pick up the child is intoxicated or otherwise impaired, we will offer to contact someone else for transportation home for the child (and the parent, if willing).
However, if the person does leave with the child and our staff has reason to believe the person was substance-impaired, we will call the police. As mandatory reporters, we will also report child endangerment to the proper authorities.
Peace and peaceful resolutions are at the core of character development in the Montessori philosophy. We believe it is our responsibility to provide a safe environment that promotes peace and peaceful resolutions to help our children develop a culture of respect for themselves and others. Therefore, we do not allow weapons or violence on school grounds. This includes real weapons or toy weapons of any type. Likewise, we also do not allow costumes or books that suggest violence.
